Stadium

Cynodon dactylon

Scientific name

Cynodon dactylon

Common name

Green couch

Other names (PBR name, trademark, breeder code)

WGP3 (protected by Australian Plant breeder's Rights); Stadium® (registered trade mark); Stadium Sports Couch; previously called CynoSport™, SS3A (breeder's code).

Description

Stadium® Sports Couch was selected for producing a tight dense turf and that provided few seedheads. The green couch variety responds well to moderate to high usage (traffic) and requires less maintenance than many older couch varieties. A significant positive is its slower vertical growth requiring less mowing and meaning less scalping.

Other comments

Stadium Sports Couch is suited to warmer climates, including dry and hotter humid regions such as the area from Sydney to mid north Queensland. In cooler parts of Victoria it is too slow growing until the weather warms up. Cold tolerant down to -12°c. Recommended for up to 20% shade in areas with low wear and up to 15% shade in areas with moderate to high wear (Source: Ozbreed). The variety was planted in October 2015 at Alexandria Park, NSW which is home to cricket, soccer (football), AFL and rugby year round.
